The Naim Audio CD5 like other Naim cd players excel in the sense of pace, rhythm and timing. Some people have descibed Naim CD players as being almost analogue in that they sound very natural. When listening to the CD5, it sounds musical as though it brings life to the music instruments. The player does not emphasis on one instument too much or make vocals sound unnatural. It sounds more like a band. Unlike most cd players, the Naim CD5 has no digital output so the user cannot add an outboard digital to analogue converter to upgrade it, however he can add a Naim power supply that powers the analogue sections of the player and this brings a worthwhile, if expensive, improvement. The CD5 can be upgraded by adding a power supply like the Flatcap2, Hi-Cap or even a SuperCap. The level of detail and separation in the musical instruments became much more distinct. That made all the difference.
