Description :
The performance of the Tannoy Eaton sets an entirely new standard for bookshelf
enclosures. Power handling capacity of 50 watts combined with high sensitivity
make it superior to many larger systems costing more and requiring much higher
driving power. The enclosure of the Tannoy Eaton has a ducted port and carefully
adjusted internal acoustic foam damping provides a bass response out of all
proportion with its size. This outstanding system enables those with only limited
space to enjoy the full range natural sound which over the years has become
associated with the name Tannoy.
The crossover network has some sophisticated circuits used for controlling both
the level of energy from the HF unit and the degree of roll-off above 5kHz.
An autotransformer is used to match the relatively high impedance of the HF
voice coil (10 ohms resistive, approximately 18 ohms above 1kHz). The Tannoy
Eaton crossover network divides the electrical energy from the amplifier between
the High Frequency compression driver and the Low Frequency direct radiator,
and makes a vital contribution to the overall performance of the system. The
crossover is assembled to the very highest standards on a fibreglass printed
circuit board, solid di-electric condensers are used throughout and all resistors
and inductances are very generously rated. The design of the Tannoy Eaton's
crossover ensures that the complete loudspeaker system has a well maintained
impedance characteristic which provides the ideal load for any amplifier.
The HPD (High
Performance Duals) integrated drive system consists of a direct radiator bass
unit and a high frequency compression driver, both located concentrically within
the same frame and magnet assembly. The numbers after HPD refer to the nominal
diameter of the unit in millimeters. All units were 8 ohms and also supplied
with crossover and terminal panel as kits for the professional market or home
constructor. The Tannoy Eaton incorporates two controls, one enabling the treble
response above 1kHz to be adjusted and the other enabling the output of the
High Frequency unit to be adjusted over its entire range from 1kHz to 20kHz,
compensating for room acoustics and individual preference. Sonically, the Tannoy
Eaton has delightful and detailed sound, and smooth with great imaging. The
tone, clarity and separation are simply superb and they provide the perfect
output for a serious music lover.
