Description :
The TDL RTL3 speakers were developed using TDL's 'reflex transmission line system', acoustics developed to deliver optimum sound within a smaller cabinet. Often for deeper bass, bigger bass drivers are used to produce the low frequency. However tranmission line designs produce similar results without having to use big bass driver. Transmission line is the name of a specific audio speaker enclosure topology, in which sound from the back of the bass speaker chassis passes along a long maze like path within speaker enclosure. The sound energy emerges from the speaker port hole in phase with the sound radiated from the front of the driver, enhancing the output level at low frequencies. The RTL series speakers were smaller and more affordable then the TDL Studio series, but without compromising on sound quality. The TDL RTL3’s large footprint and dominance saw it as award winner at What Hi-Fi’s 1995 awards. The RTL3’s high sensitivity at 90dB meant that even the smallest of amplifier could produce serious sound levels, down to it’s two bass units. Ideal for a larger room, the TDL RTL3 was a highly recommend choice against its competitors. Though the RTL3's are not the most detailed speaker, they are fun to listen to. They blow away the competition to the listener's ears. The speakers are well known for their good bass, and soundstage is nothing short of huge. The TDL RTL3 had 2 versions. The early RTL3 were using Monacor SPH175 drivers, they had squared off sides. The later RTL3 version were using Visaton drivers.
