Description :
The Audio Note AZ-2 is a versatile speaker that performs well with most small transistor amplifiers as well as with higher levels of Audio Note amplification. It is rear loaded, folded quasi-parabolic horn design with a rear facing mouth, and uses two drive units per cabinet. Each speaker features a soft dome tweeter and an eight-inch paper-coned woofer sporting a serious foam surround. It is supported with gold plated-spikes and two pairs of silver binding posts per speaker. However, because of its 93dB sensitivity, the Audio Note AZ-2 does not have to flex too much muscle to produce hefty levels of sound. It is very efficient and offers the amplifier an easy load for low powered valve amplifiers.

The sound is hugely dynamic, richly detailed and very involving, and communicates the feeling of music very well. Being horn loaded, it benefits greatly from being placed near a rear wall or in a corner, to enhance bass performance considerably, adding a further 3 to 6 dB of bass below natural cut-off. The speakers make the absolute most of what they are given, sounding lively and assertive, with lots of brilliance and detail. The bottom end is even, well defined and tuneful, the top end is natural and well extended, without any harshness or sibilance and a mid range that sings. A slight forwardness in the upper midband ensures the music projects into the room with plenty of authority and presence. The soundstage is wide and they are able to create a panoramic 3D stage. The vocal and instruments sound alive and can pinpoint the exact location on stage. The Audio Note AZ-2 is very good at pitch differentiation and has excellent timing and very good at conveying the impression of people singing or playing in a unified coherent manner. The Audio Note AZ-2 is a pair of all-round speakers with qualities that are suitable for most genres of music.
