The Marantz PM-66SE KI Signature Stereo Integrated Amplifier gives all music formats a boost so that they sound as warm and full as possible. The Marantz amplifier offers three line inputs (one phono and two tape), making it suitable for stereo and home theater systems. Its single line speaker output is simple to set up and use. This stereo amplifier has adjustable output power that puts the owner in control. The most obvious additions to the PM-66SE KI are the little copper nameplate and the not-so-little copper back cover. As for internal changes, these are numerous, and include a new toroidal transformer and various other things Mr Ishiwata thinks are the best for sound reproduction. For vinyl fetishists, there is an improved MM phono stage.

The most significant characteristic of the Marantz PM-66SE KI Signature amplifier is the room it gives each part of the whole -- be it voice or instrument -- to breathe. The clarity given to each instrument on cd recordings is stunning. On quick-take, kind of Blue of folk-rock album, is a swirl of guitars and flutes and drums dancing around the Man's crackling voice -- and the 66SE KI gives them all space to show their worth. The amplifier brings out all the wondrous musicality of the songs, reminding the listener just how great the band was! On more balanced material, the bass isn't overt; in fact it may be too covert for some. Yet, never short-changed -- drums were always snappy but full, bass guitars clear and prominent. However, on some recordings, the treble becomes ragged and bright. Overall, sandwiching a bewitching midrange with a vivid, forthright treble and a fast, agile, and when necessary, growling bass, the Marantz PM-66SE KI Signature is surely one of the pace-setters in its price range.
