The Alchemist Nexus APD43A is a truly high end product which is not to be confused with ordinary integrated amplifiers. Difficult musical passages are handled with consummate ease by the 55W RMS power section. The Nexus APD43A utilises 2 pairs of high current output devices, configured in Class A/B mode, which enables it to consistantly drive a variety of loudspeaker types and loads with excellent results. The Nexus range of amplifiers has been designed to fulfill the needs of the music lover that appreciates the finer things in life. Even though the original Nemesis designs set new standards for modern hifi equipment, the evolution into the Nexus series offers a significant improvement on the original designs. Improvements on the Nexus include the upgrading of components in the output stages and a revised component layout to incorporate minimum wiring. To complete the package, and increase in its audiophile status, the bias sensing transitorized circuitry is designed by Tim de Paravacini of EAR "Esoteric Audio Research". When playing, while not being the most subtle of sounds, there is a nice flat response to make the tonal balance evenly spread. The bass drum thud and the snare smack with wild abandon. It has the power and drive without abrasion. On classical music, brass instuments are bold and fiery and the violins show a glistening sheen. The speed and fury of the music is captured well by the Nexus. The Alchemist APD43A carries on the company's traditional of a nice,even smooth sound but it has a little more grip and excitement than expected. It is great with rock, dance and rhythmic orchestral music. Definitely well worth a listen.
